But the brief answer to your question is.

    1) Yes that's quite doable

    2) It's best done by mirroring to the new server

Generally, I would upgrade to the latest release and then do the mirroring, the upgrade is usually pretty quick and painless.  But it should work either way if you wish to mirror mirror to a new version from an old version that usually does work fine.

I have inherited a SurgeMail server running on Windows and I would like to move it to a Linux server since the Windows server is quite old... Has anyone experience with that? Is there something I have to watch out for? ...or should I consider moving it again to a, newer, Windows server?

 

Please advise...
