"Yes.  Particularly if you use the spam training folders to teach it.  In imap you drop the messages into the spam folder to train it."

If a particular use on IMAP is getting a lot of spam and moves spam into the spam folder does the system learn this globally or only for this particular user?

Yes, in later versions we've done a bunch of work to improve the spam handling, and to make it easier to setup the filtering.
 
We have found most people getting a lot of spam had not set the spam settings to actually stop spam :-) 
 
So, if you install the latest beta and apply the changes suggested in the config checker, then you will find it's very easy to set good spam settings per user or globally. And to see what your settings really are.
 
Also each new version does tend to add some extra spam filtering mechanisms to improve the filters.  

I have 2 servers one acting as a mirror in a remote location, Being a Novice with Linux and Surge mail I did not setup SSH on the server and therefore I can not telnet into it.  If I upgrade my Master Server "local" to the newer version and my Mirror remains on the older version will this cause an issue?
