from="/" to="/scripts/webmail.exe ports="80"
from="/manage" to="/cgi/user.cgi ports="443"

Would I put
g_url_alias from="/" to="/surgeweb" ports="7080"
First in the list? And will it interfere with the others?

A url_alias rule along the following lines should do the trick:

      g_url_alias from="/" to="/surgeweb" ports="7080"

      2      If this is implemented is there a way for someone to still access the plain interface?
                  IE mail.domain.com.au/plainjane?

Sorry that is the surgeweb plain interface? not as part of the url but you can select the interface as part of the surgeweb login page.
