I'd also ask him a couple of questions:
1). How far away from the WiFi router he's located.
2). How many other wireless networks does he "see" in the wireless
dropdown menu.
3). Also ask how OLD the Wireless Router is. I've had issues where older
units would randomly drop wi-fi connectivity, but still SHOW as being
connected. I routinely REPLACE my WiFi router every 2 years or so. To
get newer technology, better performace, as well as new bands. If he's
in the 2.4ghz band, a new router could provide him access to the 5ghz
band, which will typically be less crowded, and more stable. Also, ask
him if he's ever updated the firmware in his router? Could be a fix from
the mfg could solve his problems on the WiFi side.
I concur, that it sounds like a local connectivity issue.
