Yes there are several ways of modifying them. Easiest is actually just to upgrade to the latest specials build:

      ftp://netwinsite.com/pub/surgemail/specials

where we completely disabled just the YesImOnline related hint recently.

Else you can control the display of any or all of the system hints as noted:
