      av_avast -version 

and 

      av_avast -test

provide you?

To uninstall avast on linux just remove the library files that it installs. For more info on avast uninstall / troubleshooting see:

I am on a test server installing an older Ubuntu Server (12) without the automatic updates. I will then test avast.

I will post my findings, I think it has something to do with my recent upgrade of Ubuntu to 14.

I tried to reinstall but I have not had any luck, I was reinstalling on top of the old version since I do not know the commands to uninstall first.

Could you provide me the uninstall commands for the avast system.
