We have plenty of bandwidth until a large lists is un-leased, like 7,000 emails. For the next hour, Surgemail will saturate our 3 MB line.

I played with g_max_send here to control the number of outbound connections that can be made at any one time.  This works for all outgoing email.  Ours is set to 30 and may be a tad high(we have 3MB - 2 T1's that are bonded).

We also had to rate limit sends to Yahoo even further. 

g_send_tolimit domain="yahoo.com" perhour=300

We have most of our users trained to also send to large lists after business hours.  They understand quickly when they have trouble sending/receiving email...
