The joy of heuristic Virus scanners is that they think any program that 
accesses tcpip is probably a virus.  Also which distribution url did you 
download exactly I'd better
check the same one just to be sure.

What exactly says 'parameter incorrect' ? Is that when you try and start 
the service.   Try this:
     cd  c:\surgemail
     surgemail -addsvc
     net start surgemail

That should recreate the windows service and then start it, if that 
doesn't fix it then I might need to take a look, in which case remote
