As of version 5.0n-10 I believe there should be no problem with other email clients responding to messages generated with surgeweb using a from address with commas in them - they will of course have your building abbreviation in them..

Currently there is no feature to query that directly no... but you should able able to use a fairly straight forward search through the _user.dat files if you wanted. I've not tried it myself but using some unix command line magic or search utility search for:

      surgemail/surgeweb/work/*/*/*/*/_user.dat

files containing

      "pref_reply" and "," on same line.

Let me know if you do not get anywhere and I'll run some tests myself.

PS the "tellmail find_user ..." command queries the authent database for field/value pairs but I did not seem to be able to make it work for finding commas, not sure why without going hunting in the source code ;-(
