an alternate strategy might be to have your customer do:
0) go to "More Folder, Manage" then at bottom of this screen click "Refresh all folders", may take a while to complete.
1) create a new folder, for example "holdme"
2) go into the Inbox and click only those s/he wants to save, if any
a) pull down "actions" and click "copy to folder"
b) go to other pages as need to copy the good email they want to save.
3) click on "Inbox" again to get on the first page.
a) click select "All"
b) at top of page will be words in yellow "click here to select all messages in this folder"
c) do so and select all 7000 messages.
d) click delete and wait a long time while the server catches up.
4) log-out this account and login again.
5) select temp folder "holdme" and select all and "Copy to folder" Inbox.
6) go to "MoreFolders Manage" , find "holdme" and "Delete" this folder.
7) use COPY not move to folder in case there are any corrupted files or indexes, copy will more likely ensure the remaining messages returned to the Inbox will be good.
8) may sound like a lot of steps, but very sure this will save all important files and remove any gremlins that might have crept into the file system.

we have a customer who apparently never deletes anything in his inbox. the domain admin called me this morning when the user couldn't get to his inbox using webmail (not surgemail) - resource limit reached.
user had just under 7000 messages in his inbox.
admin started deleting messages through the web admin interface.
he called me a few minutes ago and said initially, he was able to delete 100+ messages at a time, but all of a sudden, no matter how many he selected, only one message was deleted.
i logged in to surgemail admin and verified this by trying it myself.
i selected twelve messages, the response was 12 messages deleted, however the total message count only went down by one, and the twelve messages were still being displayed.
we're running 5.2a-1 on opensuse 11.0
disk space is not a probem. /var/spool/mail is 896G, only 8% used.
anyone have any ideas?
