Our surge servers have been dual stacked for a long time and we have 
never had a complaint about delivery to gmail.  They will of course use 
ipv6 as the first option and fall back to ipv4 but a review of the logs 
show a lot of ipv6 traffic with gmail.  We're also noticing a pretty big 
increase of traffic with verizon ipv6.

I'd take a really close look at the surge logs for the failed gmail 
delivery attempts, they should hold the answer.
