simply put, flash is not supported on apple mobile devices. aside from 
that it's clunky, requires specialized programming and support.

as i am converting my customers' older websites to more modern 
technology, we've given up flash and are using jquery plugins to replace 
image galleries, etc.

of course, while this doesn't apply to surgemail, html5 is here. imho, 
flash is passe'.
