More study on this shows that events and reminders that are set on 
server work fine and make it into the android calendar,

And events that are made on the android calendar make it into the 
server's calendar. But reminders that are made in events on the 
android calendar, are not synced properly into the server's calendar.

Would someone else mind checking this, please? Perhaps it is the 
android calendar that I am using which is a fault.
