Suddenly today I started receiving calls from my Outlook and Thunderbird users who are having problems sending messages. They all receive the “time-out” message communicating with the server. I checked my own outlook (2007) and sure enough same problem. SurgeMail Version 5.0m-1, Built Oct 18 2010 21:02:04, Platform Linux (Surgeweb Enabled) Surgeweb is working fine… no problems there. We have made no firewall changes. Last ditch effort… I changed the smtp port from 25 to 587 and my machine will now send. If I switch back to port 25 I get the time outs. The only changes that have been made in the last couple days to the server were the installation of a digital certificate yesterday morning. I don’t think this is anything to do with that since everything has been working until mid-morning today. From a command prompt I checked port 25 using telnet and this is what I get: 220 *************************************************************** From a command prompt I checked port 587 using telnet and this is what I get: 220 grady.k12.ga.us SurgeSMTP (Version 5.0m-1) http://surgemail.com Does ANYONE have any ideas or thoughts on this? --- Thanks, Chris Chris Guest, Director of Technology/E-rate Coordinator Grady County School District Phone: (229)377-8258 Fax: (229)378-1199 Email: cguest@grady.k12.ga.us
