Once that message numbering changes or gets out of sync with the client, all messages become new to the client. Updating Surgemail to a new version almost guarrenties soft renumbering. I have never experimented to see if there was a way to trigger that within Surgemail, but I suspect it's possible. That is just a downside to using POP3 that way.
