I'm doing okay with it, but I only have one account. I used a windows mobile 5 and pop for years but recently went to android. I have my desktop set up for pop3 and leave a copy on the server for a week. The Android 2.2 (froyo) uses imap with compression and push turned on in K-9. I need to keep copies on my desktop for legal/business reasons is why the desktop uses pop instead of imap. I did run into a minor problem last night when trying to send email from the android. The g_con_perip was too low. I guess imap wanted more connections, so I increased it and now it sends okay.
