I fixed it. I created a new surge_cert.pem file in a text editor, then  
stopped and started surgemail.

Any ideas why the surge_cert.pem created by the "new CSR" process  
didn't work? With the old 1024 bit certificate, the browser would give  
a warning but allow me to proceed. Not so with 2048 bit certificates?
