We can throttle at the firewall but it will throttle all mail on the server.

Not just one user or one domain.

Not abrupt at all mate.

Just an observation.

This is not the place to do bandwidth throttling (traffic shaping). You should either be doing this at your firewall (although that's debatable) or with a specialized appliance.

I would prefer my applications stay within their specialty and not try to do everything.
